TRU x Splatsin Business Development Program Spring 2021

Thompson Rivers University School of Business and the Splatsin Band are partnering to offer a business development program for individuals who have the dream of opening their own business. The program will run Wednesdays and Thursdays from March 17 to June 24 between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Students will develop the skills, values, and attitudes needed to succeed as an entrepreneur.

Significant focus will be given to understanding the elements of a successful business plan. They include how to decide if starting a business is right for you and your family and how to research the stages needed for success, including how to develop your product or idea, how to identify who your target market is and how will you reach them, and how to create a financial plan to support your business. Business ideas may include retail, tourism services, authentic Splatsin cultural presentations and experiences, or other services in the general economy.

Key success factors for entrepreneurship will be explored, including how to define a business idea and how to commit to the long hours and work that a business start-up requires. Applicants only need to bring their ideas and a willingness to put in the work. All instruction will be made by TRU School of Business and Economics professors and supported by the service team and guest lecturers.
