TOP UP RENTAL BENEFIT FROM GOVERNMENT OF CANADA 2022
APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED DECEMBER 12, 2022, to MARCH 15, 2023.
To Be Eligible:
• Canadians must be at least 15 years of age
• Have paid rent in 2022 that was equal to 30% of their net income in 2021
• Families have a net income $35,000.00 or less, individuals have a net income of $20,000.00 or less.
• Had to have filed a 2021 tax return.
Before you apply you will need the following information on hand:
• Your Social Insurance Number
• Your full name and date of birth
• Your complete address
• Your 2021 tax Notice of Assessment
• The amount of rent you paid in the 2022 calendar year
• Your landlord(s) name and telephone number
• Your rental address
How to apply:
• Do you have a CRA “MY ACCOUNT”? If so, you can apply online. Or if you have a My Service Canada account, you can apply online with that account or you can use the online portal application form to apply by following all the steps and having all your information with you.
• If you do not have an account, you can call in 1-800-282-8079 Monday to Friday 8AM-8PM and Saturday 9AM-5PM. For TTY 1-800-665-0354 or 1-800-282-8079 will work.
• If you are already set up with direct deposit, you will see the top-up benefit in five (5) days if you a receiving a cheque it should be about ten (10) days. This is a non-taxable benefit paid so you do not have to declare it on your 2022 tax forms.
