Snow Survey and Water Supply Bulletin


As of February 1, 2024, the snowpack in the South Thompson is at 81% of what the typical snowpack is at this time of year.

Most of the spring and summer water supply in British Columbia comes from a melting snowpack. The provincial snowpack average is at 61% of the provincial average at this time year. Last year, the provincial snowpack average at this time of year was 79% of normal.

A below normal spring freshet and low flood hazard is expected this season. This is the first El Nino winter season since 2018-2019, and El Nino is linked to warmer winters. Warm spring and summer forecasts are increasing the potential for drought. However, we still have 2 to 3 months left in the snow season so conditions may still change and updates will be shared.
