Home / Emergency Updates / BCWS Planned Ignition
Plans are in place to conduct a small-scale planned ignition on the Hullcar Mountain wildfire (K41796), located approximately 13 kilometres northwest of Armstrong. This ignition operation will be implemented as early as this afternoon and will be conducted by hand. It will be approximately 40 hectares in size and the ignition operation will only proceed if site and weather conditions are appropriate to do so.
The intent of this planned ignition is to bring the active fire perimeter to already established control lines, under fire behaviour conditions that are more suitable for efficient and effective fire suppression efforts.
Smoke and increased fire activity may be visible from communities of Armstrong and Enderby as well as travelers along Highway 97 and 97A.
