National Indigenous Peoples Day 2021 Activities


To honour and recognize our heritage, cultures, and valuable contributions to society, Splatsin and others are hosting a variety of events and activities to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day 2021. Below is a list of both Splatsin activities and others happening within Secwepemcúĺecw and online on June 20-21. Please respect local health restrictions and do not travel to other communities or attend events if you are sick.

SPLATSIN COMMUNITY CAMP
When: June 21, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm
What: Crafting, drumming, singing, dancing, canoe rides, prayers, lunch, and dinner
Where: Pillar Lake
Who: Splatsin community members (limited capacity)

CONNECTING OUR HEARTS: TENDING TO OUR HEARTS & HOPES
When: June 21, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm
What: A healing workshop with Melanie Lansall, focused on fun self-care and self-reflection exercises
Where: Online
Who: Splatsin community members
How: RSVP to Denica at 250-309-2936 OR Jessica at 250-309-2331

EVERY CHILD MATTERS: SPLATSIN COMMUNITY MARCH
When: June 21 at 10:00 am
What: Part of a nation-wide march to honour the 215 children discovered at the former Indian Residential School, followed by live music and refreshments
Where: Walking from Enderby Bridge to the Splatsin Community Centre
Who: Splatsin community members and supporters
How: Just show up, everyone is welcome

INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY KICK-OFF CELEBRATION
When: June 20, 5:00 pm
What: Live performances from Conway K Kootenay, Xhalida, Madelaine McCallum, Bitterly Divine, and MC Suzette Amaya, and door prizes
Where: Online
Who: Public
