Mandatory Masks: Shihiya School

Dear Shihiya School staff and families,

We hope everyone had a safe, happy and healthy spring break! This week, the Provincial Health Officer announced amended provincial health orders due to increasing COVID-19 numbers in the province. The orders include an amended mask mandate for schools. Beginning Thursday, April 1, all staff, visitors and students in grades 4-7 will be required to wear masks at Shihiya School, including while they are at their desks. Masks will now also be required on the school bus.

Students are asked to bring and wear their masks to school tomorrow. If masks are not sent to school with students in grades 4 through 7, we will provide them with one. Please be advised that a face shield is not a substitute for a mask, as it has an opening below the mouth. Mask exemptions remain in place for students and staff who cannot wear a mask for health or behavioural reasons, for those who cannot put on or remove a mask on their own, or while students are eating or drinking and if they are behind a barrier.

We appreciate your cooperation as we navigate through these ever-changing times. If you have any questions about the amended mask mandate, please contact the school at (250) 838-2246.

Sincerely,
Reidun Kopp
Head Teacher
