Hullcar Mountain FireAugust 11th – 0800hrs
** K41796 Fire Update **
Yesterday, August 10, the controlled burn along the eastern boundary was successful.
Approximately 40 hectares of fuel between the fire front and the fire guards was burnt using a low intensity ground fire. Tony and Loyd provided input and monitored the burning operations. Night operations monitored the fire and confirmed that it remained within the fire guards overnight. Controlled burning operations are expected to resume today at a smaller scale to fully contain the fire. Tony and Lloyd will continue to actively participate in the firefighting efforts.
The fire remains within the fire guards and continues to burn as a low intensity ground fire. Crews continue to put the fire out along the Northern, Western and Southern boundaries. Smoke from these areas may still be visible today. Additional fire growth outside of the fire guards is not expected as the weather remains stable and fire guards are being reinforced.There are currently 95 personnel responding to this wildfire. There are currently 2 helicopters responding to this wildfire. There is currently 12 pieces heavy equipment responding to this wildfire. There is currently 21 structure protection personnel responding to this incident. Large machinery is starting to be released as fire guard construction ends and fire fighting efforts enter the mop up phase.
Fire activity has been observed at mostly rank 1 and 2, which means a low vigour surface fire, with some pockets of rank 3 on slopes in the late afternoon, which displays as a moderate vigorous surface fire.
** Weather **
Calm this morning with 10 km/h winds from the east. Chance of showers and risk of thunderstorms this afternoon into this evening, with 10 km/h winds from the east. Calm overnight and into tomorrow morning.
** Evacuation Alerts and Orders **
The Evacuation Order issued on August 6, 2024 has been downgraded to Evacuation Alert for TWO PROPERTIES ONLY at 2541 and 2621 Salmon River Road.
The August 6, 2024 evacuation orders and alerts remain in place for Splatsin members. The EOC will notify residents of any changes.
The emergency reception center in Armstrong at the Hassen Memorial Arena remains open however there are hours of operation to be aware of. If you are being impacted by the fire and require assistance, please contact the EOC at 250-241-1102.
