Hullcar Mountain FireAugust 12th – 1900 hrs
** K41796 Fire Update **
This fire is now classified as Being Held and it will no longer be classified as a Wildfire of Note. This means that based on fuel and weather conditions with the assigned resources, this wildfire is not expected to grow beyond the current fire perimeter.
Until this fire is classified as Out, residents can expect to see intermittent smoke over the coming weeks as the fire finds pockets of unburnt fuel from within the perimeter at high elevation. These areas are well within the fire perimeter and surrounded by previously burnt fuels.
Crews are continuing to mop-up the edges of the fire with water. They have close to a 50ft cold edge on the whole fire and will keep working on this for the coming days.
Resources will be downsized slightly tomorrow. One unit crew (27 personnel) will be finished today. Crews report good site conditions, and a rehab specialist from the Okanagan Resource District is planned to come out this week to assess the guards that were built and do any critical work needed before the fall.
The EOC will continue to monitor the fire and operations from the ground and air. After this update, the EOC will begin putting out evening updates only beginning tomorrow.
** Evacuation Alerts and Orders **
The August 6 Evacuation Orders have been reduced to Evacuation Alerts for three properties in Splatsin IR#1. Please refer to August 11, 2024 release.
As of now, all properties in Splatsin IR#1 are on Evacuation Alert. The EOC will notify residents of any further changes. Property owners in an Evacuation Alert area may return to their property but must be prepared to evacuate on short notice, if required.
Due to the downgrading of Evacuation Orders, the Emergency Support Services at Hassen Memorial Arena in Armstrong are no longer being provided.
** Weather **
Chance of showers and risk of thunderstorms this evening. Calm conditions expected overnight and into tomorrow afternoon.
