Hullcar Mountain Wildfire UpdateAugust 9 – 1800hrs
** Key Updates **
– Small-scale planned ignition has been approved for the northeast corner of fire, only proceeding if site and weather permits– Structural protection units have finished being deployed in target areas– Two community members are now working on the fire– Evacuation alerts and orders remain in place
** K41796 Fire Update **
No significant growth reported on the fire today. The fire continues to display smoldering and low vigor surface fire throughout most of the fire area.
A small-scale planned ignition has been approved for the northeast corner of the fire near the powerlines. This ignition operation will be conducted by hand. It will be approximately 40 hectares in size and the ignition operation will only proceed if site and weather conditions are appropriate to do so. The intent of the burn is to remove unburned fuel between the fires edge and control lines. Crews are monitoring the weather and the changing winds due to thunderstorms in the area. The planned burn will not occur until weather conditions allow.
There was an increase in smoke this afternoon along the upper parts of fire, but everything is still within control lines.Crews have finished deploying structural protection units in the Hullcar, Felix, William, and Clcahl Road areas.

** Evacuation Alerts and Orders **
The August 6, 2024 evacuation orders and alerts remain in place. The emergency reception center in Armstrong at the Hassen Memorial Arena remains open however there are hours of operation to be aware of. If you are being impacted by the fire and require assistance, please contact the EOC at 250-241-1102.

Chance of showers, risk of thunderstorms this evening into tomorrow morning. 15 km/h winds from the East. Calm conditions expected tomorrow morning with 10 km/h winds from the East. Chance of showers and risk of thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon.
