COVID-19 Community Update 76

There are currently 0 active cases and 0 people in self-isolation in our community. Splatsin continues to operate in Pandemic Risk Level 3: High.

Splatsin Health Services and Kukpi7 & Tkwamipla7 continue to encourage members to follow the latest provincial health orders and practice safety measures to protect each other against COVID-19. Two of the most important orders are to avoid non-essential travel outside of the community and to avoid gatherings indoors of any size. However, gatherings of up to 10 people are permitted outdoors.

As the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) prepares to start the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccines across First Nations communities in B.C., you might be wondering why a second dose is needed since our first dose of the Moderna vaccine provided us with about 80% protection against the virus. Studies show that after the second dose, the Moderna vaccine provides up to 90% protection against the virus, significantly reducing the chance you will catch the virus or spread it to others.

Just like the first dose, you may experience side effects such as a sore arm, fever, headache, and fatigue. These mild to moderate side effects should disappear within a few days after vaccination. Side effects are a good thing as it means your immune system is working!

Splatsin Health Services expects to receive the second dose of the vaccine sometime this summer. The community will be notified as soon as possible to book appointments using the same system as we did with the first dose by calling the Health Centre to book.
