COVID-19 Community Update 70: The Vaccine is Here

The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine has arrived in our community and the first clinic will be tomorrow, Saturday, March 13 by appointment only. Please phone the Splatsin Health Centre at (250) 838-9538 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. starting Saturday, March 13 through Friday, March 19 to book your appointment. Due to a limited supply and a large demand, our health team has just 7 days to immunize the Splatsin community. Friday, March 19 will be the last day to be vaccinated. To honour and respect our Elders, we will be immunizing them first. After this, we will follow the public health guidelines to prioritize the rest of those wanting to be immunized.

Band members, especially Elders, who are known to Splatsin Health Services have been contacted to book an appointment. For all other members, we are counting on the community to share this information widely to ensure everyone who wants to be vaccinated can do so. Please share this information with your fellow band members.

We understand that vaccine confidence can be challenging among community members and we want to acknowledge the historical reasons and trauma that have contributed to this.

In almost all cases it is safer to get the vaccine than to get COVID-19. If you are unsure if the vaccine is right for you, visit our vaccine FAQ page here or speak with one of our Registered Nurses by calling (250) 838-9538. You can also book an appointment to speak with your doctor, but please remember that Friday, March 19 will be the final vaccine clinic. Alternatively, you could try the First Nations Health Authority Virtual Doctor of the Day Program here.

At your appointment, a Registered Nurse will discuss everything you need to know about the vaccine. COVID-19 protocols are in effect at the clinic. After your appointment, you will be seated in a waiting room for 15 minutes. If an unexpected reaction occurs, Splatsin’s Nurses are trained to provide immediate treatment.
