Cone Harvesters
The Forest Improvement and Research Management Branch’s mission is to protect, manage and conserve British Columbia’s forest genetic resources through excellence in cone and seed services, research, tree breeding, decision support and client services. It provides critical support for the Chief Forester’s office, and works to understand, protect and conserve the genetic foundations of B.C.’s public forests.
Tree seed orchards supply the seed that is grown into seedlings and then replanted across the province to regenerate our forests. The Seed Production section is responsible for effectively managing five ministry seed orchard sites, representing 50% of the orchard capacity in BC.
The Seed Orchard Team has 11 full time staff, 13 long-term auxiliary employees, and up to 130 seasonal staff, responsible for managing 50,000 trees within 45 orchards.
• This summer, starting around July 29th, we will be hiring at our Tappen and Vernon locations to harvest the cones from the trees.
• Starting wage is 25.40$/hr! Work is Monday to Friday, 7 hours a day.
• No experience needed! Applicants must be 16+ years old.
