Community COVID-19 Update 92

COVID-19-positive cases are rising in our community.

When paired with the COVID-19 vaccine, the most effective way to stay healthy during community outbreaks is to avoid attending or hosting indoor gatherings of any size, wear a face mask and keep a 6′ physical distance in public, and wash your hands with soap and water or sanitize often. If you feel sick, call Splatsin Health Services at (250) 838-6496 to request a rapid test. If the phone lines are busy, or it is after hours, call HealthLink BC at 811.

If You Have COVID-19. Learn how to care for yourself if you have symptoms of COVID-19 or tested positive for COVID-19.

What to do if you have mild symptoms and testing is not recommended

  1. Stay home until you feel well enough to return to your regular activities.
  2. Avoid non-essential high-risk settings such as long-term care facilities and individuals at higher risk for severe illness for 10 days after the start of your symptoms. This guidance is intended to prevent non-essential visits (e.g. social visits), and does not apply to essential workers. Employees should follow their workplace guidance.

What to do if you test positive for COVID-19

  1. Complete an online form to report your test result

Fill out an online at by googling ‘report covid results bccdc’ to report a new positive test result to public health. You will be asked about your health history and where you have been before you got sick with COVID-19. The information you provide will help public health prioritize people who may benefit from public health follow up, and/or treatment for COVID-19. Self-isolate and manage your symptoms

2. Self-isolation essentially means keeping away from others to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Manage your symptoms safely with home treatment, such as drinking plenty of fluids, rest, and using a humidifier or hot shower to ease a cough or sore throat.  If you have a fever, you can use non-prescription medicine like acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) or ibuprofen (such as Advil) to help with some of the symptoms of COVID-19.

Go to an emergency department or call 911 if you:

  • find it hard to breathe
  • have chest pain
  • can’t drink anything
  • feel very sick
  • feel confused

3. Let your close contacts know

Let your close contacts know so they can monitor for symptoms. Generally, you should notify:

  • People you live with
  • People you had intimate contact with.

Everyone in the household should monitor symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and stay home if they develop symptoms.
