There is currently an algal bloom affecting the Salmon Arm part of Shuswap Lake.
Interior Health has issued a Cautionary Advisory, recommending that residents and visitors not go in the water where algae is present and not to drink water from the lake in impacted areas.
Water monitoring is underway at affected areas to test for the presence of microcystin, a toxin that is sometimes associated with blue-green algae blooms; to-date, the toxin has not been present in any samples.
