Title & Rights: Community Champion Working Group

Splatsin’s Title and Rights Department is looking for community champions to participate in an advisory working group. While there are no pre-requisites for members, we are hoping for people with diverse backgrounds, experiences and cultural and contemporary knowledge. This is an opportunity for any Splatsin community member to engage more actively in Title and Rights projects, as well as to learn and to provide guidance on activities occurring within Splatsin territory.

There is a maximum of 10 seats available on the Working Group and an honorarium is provided. There will be one meeting per month with the option to increase meetings depending on project demands.

Key activities and duties of Working Group participants include:

  • To provide community perspectives and guidance on various projects with:
    • name places, culturally significant sites, spiritual sites, current and traditional.
    • use for food sources, medicines, and more.
  • To support inclusion of Secwépemc cultural knowledge and language in all projects
  • To support sustainable management, use and protection of all natural resources within Splatsin traditional territory founded in Indigenous knowledge and language
  • Support Title and Rights staff to stand up Secwépemc Nation laws and jurisdiction over all our lands, water and resources.
