Home / COVID-19 Updates / COVID-19 Community Update 67
These updates are published weekly on Thursdays at 4:30 p.m. by Splatsin Health Services.
Splatsin is now in Alert Level 3: High. There are 0 active cases on-reserve as of this update, but this could change suddenly. See the latest case numbers by local area HERE. Band members are asked to continue their good work to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and protect our elders and the community’s most vulnerable people. See the Splatsin Pandemic Risk Chart HERE. On-reserve checkpoints will be removed this Friday. Province-wide restrictions are still in effect:
The province is currently in Phase 1 (December to February) of BC’s immunization plan. Phase 2 is February to March. Splatsin expects to receive the vaccine sometime in Phase 2, and our health team could be given as little as 24 hours notice before it arrives in our community. Once the vaccine is here, our health team has just 7 days to immunize the community. This is because of high demand and limited supply.
When our health team is notified about the vaccine’s arrival, band members who are regular clients of Splatsin Health Services will be called to book an appointment. Band members who are 18+ and want the vaccine are encouraged to call the Splatsin Health Centre at (250) 838-9538 any time during the week between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to add their name to a list. People on this list will be contacted when the vaccine arrives. Elders and other vulnerable band members will be immunized first.
Learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine process in our community by watching this short video explained by Splatsin Registered Nurse, Meghan Tetrault:
Splatsin Health Services understands that vaccine confidence can be challenging among band members, and we want to honour the historical reasons and trauma that have contributed to this. If you have questions about the vaccine or are not sure if the vaccine is right for your health, speak to your doctor or a Registered Nurse at Splatsin Health Services. If you don’t have a Doctor and would like to speak to one, try the Virtual Doctor of the Day Program HERE.
