COVID-19: Education Department Update

Shihiya School

Waytkp Shihiya Families,

The health and safety of our students and staff are of our utmost concern and we have made the decision that the Shihiya School will remain closed until September 2020. Teachers and staff will continue to provide online learning resources and deliver weekly learning packages to students until the end of May. In June, teachers and staff will be sending home fun family-based activities in place of academic learning packages. The last day of weekly deliveries before summer break will be June 19. Speech and Language,

Occupational Therapy, and Counselling supports will continue to be provided until June 19 as well.

Teachers and staff will be providing weekly Zoom meetings and checking times for students to access any learning support they may need from home. The Zoom meetings will be accessible with your child’s classroom teacher and Certified Education Assistants (CEA’s). This is an opportunity for your child to connect with someone virtually to help them with their learning at home. Zoom links for accessibility will be posted on Class Dojo and sent to parents via email.

Teachers are looking into offering learning supports throughout the summer and will be sending home information regarding this at a later date. When classes resume in September, teachers will assess each student and develop programs to suit individual needs and set the necessary supports in place for your child.

The Shihiya School would like to thank everyone for their continued support during these challenging times and look very forward to seeing students in September.
