Statement from Splatsin Kukpi7 Michael Christian

Dear Splatsin Community Members,

I am writing to address concerns that have arisen regarding a recent investigation into a complaint brought against Tkwamipla7 Edna Felix, as announced at the Splatsin Community Assembly on November 26, 2024. While we understand the interest and passion this matter has generated, I must urge our community to remain respectful, considerate, and united during this time.

In accordance with Splatsin’s Governance Policy, the leadership determined that the complaint warranted an investigation. To ensure fairness and neutrality, we have engaged an independent third party to carry out this process. Tkwamipla7 Felix has been informed of the complaint, given the opportunity to participate fully, and will be able to present her evidence. A temporary suspension letter was provided to Tkwamipla7 Felix on Friday, November 15, and the investigation was commenced on Monday, November 18. The investigation remains ongoing, and once concluded, the investigator will propose a resolution following section 159 of the Governance Policy.

While leadership is committed to transparency, the confidentiality of the investigation is crucial to maintaining fairness and integrity. We will not comment further on the specifics of this matter until the process has concluded.

Regrettably, negative rumours, false information, and divisive commentary have surfaced in our community, including on social media and at community events. This behaviour is harmful and counterproductive. It erodes trust and creates unnecessary division among us. As a community rooted in connection and care, I call on all Splatsin members to stop the spread of misinformation and focus on fostering lateral kindness—a principle where we support and uplift each other to heal and grow together.

Lateral kindness requires participation from us all. Leadership will lead the way by continuing to make decisions that are fair, transparent, and in the best interest of our community. However, the strength of our healing lies in collective action. To help build this unity, we are planning more social events in the coming months to bring us together in the spirit of understanding and togetherness.

In addition, I am pleased to announce that in the New Year, we will be launching a governance project to review Splatsin’s core governing documents. This initiative will incorporate community input to ensure our governance aligns with your values and best practices. This is part of our commitment to improving transparency, accountability, and trust.

I encourage all community members to join us in embracing this journey of healing and progress. Together, we can build a stronger, kinder, and more united Splatsin.

Kukwstsétsemc,
Kukpi7 Michael Christian
