K41796 Fire Update
The proposed small-scale planned ignition on the HullcarMountain wildfire (K41796) commenced at 1000hrs withfavourable conditions. Images in this update show the planned ignition during (first photo) and after (second photo). Crews have stopped ignitions for today as of 1700hrs and report ignition site looks good right now. Other than the planned ignition, no significant growth on the fire. Again, there will be heavier smoke present this afternoon and overnight but crews are on scene monitoring everything.
There are currently 95 personnel responding to this wildfire.There are currently 2 helicopters responding to this wildfire.There is currently 12 pieces heavy equipment responding to this wildfire. There is currently 21 structure protection personnel responding to this incident.
Fire activity has been observed at mostly rank 1 and 2, which means a low vigour surface fire, with some pockets of rank 3 on slopes in the late afternoon, which displays as a moderate vigorous surface fire.
This morning, August 10, crews continue to make progress mopping up along the west flank of the fire near Haines Creek South FSR where fire behaviour has been low. Along the south flank, crews are working on patrolling and mopping up.
Crews have tied in the north flank and are working on mopping up in this area. Crews have been preparing the guard on the east and northeast section of the fire to conduct the small-scale planned ignition of approximately 40 hectares. The east flank is tied in with guard and has contingency plans in place. Preparation of the guard and control lines are being done using a combination of crews digging hand guard, heavy equipment, and aerial resources.
Weather
Chance of showers and risk of thunderstorms this evening, with 20 km/h winds from the north. Calm overnight and into tomorrow morning with 15 km/h winds from the northeast. 10 km/h winds from the east expected late tomorrow morning. Chance of showers and risk of thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon.

The August 6, 2024 evacuation orders and alerts remain in place. The EOC will notify residents of any changes.
