Hullcar Mountain Fire Update
August 9th – 0900 hrs

** K41796 Wildfire **

The fire continues to display smoldering and low vigor surface fire throughout most of the fire area. There are isolated areas where the fire is displaying more intense behavior that will continue to produce thick smoke today. Fire growth was slow yesterday due to favorable weather conditions (light winds) and successful fire suppression efforts in the day and through the night. BCWFS expects to see slight fire growth today as the fire burns into containment guards along the eastern fire flank. The current fire size is estimated to now be approximately 730 hectares. Potential for fire growth over the next day continues to be along the northern and eastern fire flanks. Afternoon thunderstorms are forecasted which may create unpredictable winds that challenge the northern and eastern fire guards.

Today, we may see an increase in smoke from a timbered area in the southeast corner of the fire. This smoke will be a result of BCWFS reinforcing fire guards by utilizing small scale hand ignitions. BCWFS and Splatsin EOC will communicate if the planned ignition proceeds.

BCWFS resources continue to grow. Night operations saw over 25 firefighters and two helicopters actioning the northern fire flank and monitoring the entire fire. Today, there are approximately 70 ground firefighters working across the fire. All helicopters that have been actioning the fire will continue to action the fire today. Fixed wing aircraft will be deployed as requested to support the firefighting efforts.

The Splatsin EOC will continue to monitor the fire from the ground and the air. A fire update will be provided this afternoon or if any significant changes to the fire conditions occur.
