HULLCAR MOUNTAIN WILDFIRE UPDATE

EVACUATION ORDER AND ALERT AREAS REMAIN IN EFFECT

The fire continues to display Rank 1 or Rank 2 behavior, meaning smoldering or low vigor surface fire.

There are isolated areas where the fire continues to display more intense Rank 3 behavior, meaning a vigorous surface fire with occasional entire tree burning known as candling.

Fire growth slowed yesterday with the fire size increasing from 670 hectares to 700 hectares. Potential for fire growth over the next day is along the northern and eastern fire flanks.

Weather conditions are expected to be stable and will not significantly move the fire, though there are thunderstorms forecasted, which may create unpredictable winds.

Overnight operations focused on the northern and eastern flanks of the fire. Crews were successful in suppressing the guard breach in the northwest corner of the fire. Today, ground, machine and air crews will continue to focus on the northern and eastern flank of the fire.

The fire along the southern and eastern flanks of the fire is exhibiting Rank 1 fire behavior. Crews will continue to monitor these areas of the fire and will be strengthening guards today.

BC Wildfire Service resources continue to grow. There are approximately 70 ground firefighters working on the fire today.

All helicopters that have been actioning the fire will continue to action the fire today. Fixed wing aircraft will be deployed as requested to support the firefighting efforts. Today, structural protection measures will continue to be deployed in the Hullcar and Clcahl Roads areas.

The Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) will continue to monitor the fire from the ground and the air. A fire update will be provided this afternoon or if any significant changes to the fire conditions occur.

The August 6, 2024 evacuation orders and alerts remain in place.

The emergency reception center in Armstrong at the Hassen Arena, loacted at 3315 Pleasant Valley Rd., remains open; however, there are hours of operation to be aware of. If you are being impacted by the fire and require assistance, please contact the EOC at (250) 241-1102.
