Hours of Work: Monday to Friday (35 hours per week)

PURPOSE AND KEY FOCUS

You will be responsible for coordinating with all stakeholders to ensure students are receiving the supports necessary to be successful.  Your job duties will focus on program planning, promotion, recruitment, implementation, delivery, and assessment.  In collaboration with stakeholders, you will provide necessary student coaching and barrier reduction strategies that will assist students to meet their educational and employment goals. In addition, the Trades Training Community Education Coordinator will monitor spending to align with approved budgets for courses and programs.

This term position ends on or before December 30, 2022.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

Reports to the Director of Education

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In collaboration with TRU, develops, coordinates, and assesses courses, programs, and workshops.
  • Liaises with TRU while leading all recruitment activities including determining student eligibility, completing all forms, and monitors enrolment.
  • Secures sufficient facilities, and ensures supplies and resources are available for course delivery, instructors, and contractors. A valid driver’s license & reliable vehicle is required.
  • Liaises with TRU in order to assist program planning and development, promotion, delivery, and reporting.
  • Provides coaching and barrier reduction strategies that will increase student success.
  • Arranges and coordinates student supports including arranging catering, transportation, etc. as required.
  • Provides planning and coordination support to the instructor and contractors.
  • Maintains financial records, reports, and statistics according to established procedures.
  • Maintains reporting requirements for timely submission.
  • Attends class sessions as required to provide administrative detail and to administer evaluation forms.
  • Networks and maintains relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties as needed to ensure program success.
  • Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Grade 12 diploma, plus two year’s post-secondary education or equivalent recommended

Experience

  • Two years’ related experience in program planning and delivery and/or event coordination.  Construction trades experience an asset.
  • Experience with employment resources and counselling
  • Experience with Academic support
  • Experience working with First Nations communities

Competencies (KSAs & Desired Attributes)

  • Ability to identify, promote, implement, and evaluate adult education programs, which meet the identified education and training outcomes
  • Ability to liaise with TRU personnel to deliver effective trades-related programming in the community
  • Self-starter
  • Ability to communicate verbally and written with all stakeholders to deliver effective programming
  • Ability to handle confidential documents with discretion
  • Familiar with supports available within the community
  • Ability to work irregular hours during peak periods of course delivery
  • Ability to maintain a professional relationship with the students and confidentiality
  • A strong knowledge of trades is an asset
  • Ability to work within a team and independently

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Occasional travel required
  • Minor conditions with occasional exposure to dust, noise, and restrictive workspace

CLASSIFICATION/PAY SCALE

Commensurate with experience
