Job Posting: Territorial Water Manager (FT)


Company Background

The Splatsin are the most southern tribe of the Shuswap Nation, the largest Interior Salish speaking First Nation in Canada whose aboriginal territory stretches from the BC/Alberta border near the Yellowhead Pass to the plateau west of the Fraser River, southeast to the Arrow Lakes and to the upper reaches of the Columbia River.  We are currently recruiting a full-time Territorial Water Manager to join our team of professionals. 

Position Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Title and Rights, the Title and Rights Territorial Water Manager will strive to achieve a constant positive movement in the assertion and recognition of Splatsin Title and Rights for the Splatsin people.

The Territorial Water Manager is responsible for assisting with the administration and leadership of the team that drives recognition of Splatsin Title and Rights for the Splatsin People;  ensuring sustainable use of lands and resources; fostering a prosperous and sustainable economy; and curating and educating stakeholders of Splatsin history, traditional knowledge, and culture.

Position requirements:  

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Social or Environmental Sciences or related field. May consider alternative combinations or education or relevant work experience.
  • At least two years’ experience working in Indigenous communities/organizations
  • Will possess an understanding of Splatsin’s core values and interests and the current First Nations political and legal landscape
  • Functional in MS Office

The successful candidate should have:

  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to build successful relationships across diverse backgrounds
  • Must have the demonstrated ability to respond to a wide range of inquiries in a strategic and timely manner
  • High ethical standards with the ability to deal tactfully with sensitive issues and always maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to negotiate
  • Valid BC Driver’s License with clean driver’s abstract
