Job Posting: Lands Manager


The Splatsin are the most southern tribe of the Shuswap Nation, the largest Interior Salish speaking First Nation in Canada whose aboriginal territory stretches from the BC/Alberta border near the Yellowhead Pass to the plateau west of the Fraser River, southeast to the Arrow Lakes and to the upper reaches of the Columbia River.  We are currently recruiting a full-time Lands Manager to join our team of professionals. 

Position Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Executive Advisor, the Lands Manager will ensure responsible stewardship by monitoring and evaluating the progress and budgets of department programs and initiatives.  The department, and its manager, has the responsibility to know our reserve land and surrounding traditional territories, how our people use the land, and how other activities taking place around us impact our inherent and treaty rights.

Position requirements:  

  • Business Degree or Professional Lands Management Certification
  • 5 years of progressive management experience with at least 3 years experience in First Nations organizations
  • Demonstrated proficiency with financial, accounting, and budgetary management functions
  • Comprehension of Aboriginal Title and Rights, cultural heritage, knowledge of Splatsin history and cultural awareness
  • Advanced computer knowledge and proficiency in MS Office is essential

The successful candidate should have:

  • Proven ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong leadership/organization/time-management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to build relationships and engage others to achieve goals
  • Impeccable oral and written communication skills including the ability to present to the community
  • Strong detail orientation
  • Able to translate strategic objectives into operational plans and actions
  • Valid BC Driver’s License with clean driver’s abstract
  • Successful completion of Criminal Record Check
