About Splatsin

The Splatsin (pronounced spla-jeen) people reside on Indian reserve lands adjacent to the City of Enderby to the south and across the Shuswap River to the east. The Splatsin are the southernmost tribe of the Secwépemc Nation, the largest Interior Salish speaking First Nation in Canada. Our aboriginal territory stretches from the B.C./Alberta border near the Yellowhead Pass to the plateau west of the Fraser River, southeast to the Arrow Lakes and to the upper reaches of the Columbia River.

Splatsin Stsmamlt Services is an organization of social workers and family support workers who are responsible for carrying out the community’s child and family service program.   We are currently recruiting a full-time qualified Social Worker to join our team of professionals.

Position Purpose

The purpose of this position is to support Splatsin families and children while providing a broad range of social services, such as family preservation, ensuring the safety and providing guardianship services to Splatsin children, developing individual and customized child and youth plans, integrating Secwepemc/Splatsin culture and values in day-to-day practice, and maintaining caseload and all necessary paperwork.

Education and Training

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, related degree, or equivalent

Core Competencies:

  • Sensitivity to the historical and systemic impacts on indigenous families and communities from intergenerational trauma due to colonialism, residential school history, the sixties scoop, and association with the child welfare system.
  • Knowledge of the traditional practices and teachings of the Secwepemc communities.
  • Ability to manage crisis and crisis intervention.
  • Demonstrates a proactive approach to problem-solving with excellent decision-making ability.
  • Applied knowledge of child-centered, trauma-informed practice.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively assess risk and complex family situations.
  • Valid driver’ license and clear driver’s abstract.
  • Criminal record check.
  • Discretion & respect for confidentiality.
